ZINCHECKO WINS SILVERWARE WITH CITY

Ukraine national team player OlekansdrZinchenko was part of the Manchester City squad that won the Carabao Cup at the weekend. He was an unused substitute as Manchester City were able to maintain their status as Carabao Cup holders. The Ukraine player has featured for his team prominently as a left-back and his place in the team was taken by Joao Cancelo.

While Ukraine player Zinchenko was on the bench for the Carabao Cup final clash with Tottenham Hotspur from North London, England international Kyle Walker started the match as the right-sided player, while the abovementioned Cancelo was on the left side of defence.

Zinchenko and Manchester City were able to win the Carabao Cup thanks to the brilliance of Kevin De Bruyne and AymericLaporte in the final ten minutes. The two players combined for the game’s only goal that gave the club a fourth successive Carabao Cup title.

Belgian international De Bruyne was a big doubt for the Carabao Cup final at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening after he picked up an injury problem in the FA Cup semi-final encounter with Chelsea a week and a day earlier. De Bruyne took the corner kick that was headed into the back of the net by Frenchman Laporte.

The injury sustained by De Bruyne forced the former VFL Wolfsburg and Chelsea player to miss the Premier League meeting with Aston Villa last week Wednesday. Without him in the squad for the Villa game, Manchester City were able to move closer to the Premier League title with a win over Villa. The Citizens won 2-1 at the expense of their hosts as the two teams finished the game with ten men.

John Stones was sent off for the Citizens towards the end of the first half with a straight red, while Villa had Matty Cash sent off after two yellow cards in the second half. Bernardo Silva produced the assists for the City goal scored by Phil Foden and Rodrigo, while the first goal of the game was scored by John McGinn in the colours of Aston Villa off the assist from newly capped England international Ollie Watkins.
